Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder, Chairman of Palli Sanchay Bank and Former Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, has been awarded the prestigious Prokriti O Jibon Foundation – Channel i “Nature Conservation Award-2018” for his extraordinary contribution in the conservation of environment and natural resources of Bangladesh.
Eminent Economist Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad handed over the crest at the award giving ceremony. Mr. Zahiruddin Mahmud, Vice-Chairman of Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd. handed over a cheque of Tk. 1 Lac to Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder. He was also presented with a Lifetime Healthcare Certificate on behalf of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital by Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Chowdhury, Chairman; Engr. M. A. Kabir, Managing Director; Dr. Kazi Naushad Un Nabi, Director; Mr. Al Emran Chowdhury, Director & CEO of Bangladesh Specialized Hospital.
Mr. Faridur Reza Sagar, Managing Director, Impress Telefilm Limited/Channel i; Mr. Muqeed Majumdar Babu, Chairman, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and Vice Chairman, Impress Group; Mr. Zahiruddin Mahmud Mamun, Vice Chairman, Impress Group and renowned environmentalists, nature lovers & intellectuals of the nation were also present at the event.
A video documentary on Prokriti O Jibon Foundation and a Video Biography on Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder were prepared and shown on the occasion. On the occasion of the Great Victory Day, in memory of the Voice Warrior Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, a video documentary on Liberation War of Bangladesh was also presented. The award giving ceremony also included the unveiling of the book ‘Amar Ruposhi Bangla’ written by Mr. Muqeed Majumdar Babu, published by Nature and Life Foundation, dedicated to litterateur Rabeya Khatun.
Born in 1953 at Jujkhola village of Pirojpur District, Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder started his professional career as a BCS (Administration) Cadre and has dutifully performed as Upazila Magistrate, Metropolitan Magistrate, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), District Commissioner (DC) and so on throughout his life. He has established many people-oriented organizations like the Meher Musalli Tree Plantation Trust, in different regions of the country. Serving as the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, he has played a significant role in the constitution of the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan 2009; Climate Change Trust Act, 2010; Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act (Amendment) 2010; Bangladesh Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012; Bangladesh Biological Diversity Act 2012 and National Environment Award Policy, 2010 of Bangladesh. In addition, he has represented Bangladesh in the UN’s Climate Change Conference in 2017.
